Brownsea Island is mainly owned by the National Trust and part of it by the John Lewis Partnership. You can get boats from the quay in Poole or from Sandbanks (by the car ferry). If you are not a member of the National Trust then be prepared to either pay an extra admission fee to get on to the island or to join the National Trust on arrival! Access to the island is restricted during the winter but is usually open daily from during the summer (March to October). The Dorset Wildlife Trust who look after the nature reserve on the island run occasional trips in winter.
