Here is a 'virtual' tour of this site to give you an idea of what to expect if you visit:

Brownsea Island is set in the middle of Poole Harbour

It provides an isolation only found on islands - no traffic!

The main interest are the birds that use the saline lagoon

But it has many other lovely and interesting places like this lake left after clay extraction

There is a large area of carr and fen, as good as you will find anywhere in Dorset

The carr has an amazing display of mosses and lichen as well as several species of damsel and dragon flies

Although unnoticed by many the mosses really are worth admiring

The damp fen still has water voles and many other species of plants and animals
